Complaints rocket about deposits, property management and rent

In 2024, there was a significant 20% increase in complaint enquiries about agents made to the Property Redress service. The number of expelled agencies rose to 76, a 31% increase from 2023. Compensation awarded by the service totaled £1,486,710 in 2024, a 56% increase from the previous year. The most common complaints were holding deposits, poor service and management, and tenancy payments and rent collection. Despite the rising number of complaints, the service maintained a 50% resolution rate at the early resolution stage and focused on building impartial relationships. Property Redress has over 18,802 member agents, covering more than half of the letting agents in the UK.
