Landlords’ legal action halts council licensing scheme

The introduction of a selective licensing scheme by North Lincolnshire Council has been delayed following a legal challenge by the Crosby Landlords’ Association. Originally set to commence on March 20, the scheme’s launch has been postponed as the association pursues a judicial review.

The scheme, requiring landlords in certain wards to pay a £955 fee for a five-year licence, aims to improve residents’ health and wellbeing by addressing wider determinants of health. However, the council’s website notes that no new applications are being accepted currently and promises to provide updates on the new launch date, application processes, and deadlines.

The council emphasizes its commitment to collaboration with landlords, tenants, and residents in the area to ensure a smooth implementation of the scheme. Non-compliance with the licensing requirement would constitute an offence once the scheme is in effect. Further updates are awaited as the legal proceedings unfold.
