Rayner and Miliband cuts energy bills for renters near pylons

The UK government’s upcoming Planning and Infrastructure Bill aims to provide financial benefits to households near new or upgraded electricity pylons. Those within 500 metres of such infrastructure will receive up to £2,500 in electricity bill discounts over 10 years. This initiative is part of a broader effort to accelerate the construction of vital energy infrastructure, which is expected to double by 2030 compared to the past decade.

The government emphasizes that these measures will not only support rural communities hosting the infrastructure but also benefit the entire country by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting clean, homegrown energy. Additional community funds of £200,000 per kilometre of overhead cables and £530,000 per substation are also planned.

Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Energy Secretary Ed Miliband highlight the importance of building infrastructure in collaboration with local communities to ensure energy security and lower bills for future generations.
