Government to offer landlords five year deals to house migrants
The government is reportedly offering landlords five-year guaranteed rent deals to house migrants, managed by Serco, a Home Office contractor. Serco oversees over 30,000 asylum seekers across 7,000 properties and is seeking landlords with units in the Midlands, North West, and East of England. The scheme aims to reduce costs, as private rental housing for migrants is significantly cheaper than hotels. This initiative coincides with the Renters Rights Bill, which some believe is reducing rental stock, and an expected rise in migrant arrivals due to favorable weather.
