Renters’ Rights Bill: Government won’t review impact on housing market
Two proposed amendments to the Renters’ Rights Bill, aimed at mitigating its impact, were rejected during the House of Lords committee stage. Shadow Housing Minister Baroness Scott of Bybrook suggested reviewing the Act’s effects on the housing market and allowing fixed-term tenancies, arguing that ignoring landlords’ concerns could destabilize the rental sector. However, Baroness Taylor of Stevenage defended the move to fully periodic tenancies, emphasizing tenant rights and stating that the legislation aligns with the government’s manifesto commitments.
